Diploma in the Montessori Method of Education (DMT)

The Montessori Method of Education is the foundation Montessori teacher training course for any individual wishing to teach or work with children aged between 2 and 1/2 and 6. This course fulfils the professional training requirements needed for employment as Montessori pre-school teachers.
 

Full-Time/Part-Time Study ( 2 1 / 2 - 6 years)

This is a foundation Montessori teacher training course. It is suitable for students wishing to work with or to teach children from 2 1 / 2 to 6 years of age.

 

External Study ( 2 1 / 2 - 6 years)
This is a foundation Montessori teacher training course for students who are not able to attend lectures.

The Modern Montessori International is committed to provide quality early childhood programmes and services to teachers, parents and individuals who may be interested to guide, facilitate and develop children.

DMT is awarded by Modern Montessori International London and is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and Open and Distance Learning Qualification Council (ODLQC). DMT is internationally recognised.

The MMI is committed to provide quality early childhood programmes and services to teachers, parents and any individual who may be interested to guide, facilitate and develop children.

 

General Teacher to Student Ratio for the courses are 1:15.

 

International Diploma in Montessori Method of Education
(2½ - 6 yrs) Full-Time

 

This is a full-time Montessori teacher training course. It is suitable for students wishing to work with or to teach children from 2½ to 6 years of age. The Diploma is awarded by Modern Montessori International, London.

 

Entry Qualifications
Applicants are assessed on their individual merits but must have obtained at least 3 GCE "O" Levels (or its equivalent). They must also have a good standard of both written and spoken English. They must be at least 17 years of age.

Aims
The course aims to develop in students a high level of professional competence as teachers of the Montessori Method of Education to children from 2½ to 6 years of age. It will give students:

  • A deep grounding in the Montessori Principle and Philosophy
  • Basic understanding of child psychology
  • An appreciation and understanding of the teaching aids developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.
  • A knowledge of the Montessori environment and the role of a Montessori directress/director
  • Knowledge of the Montessori curriculum

Course Material

On acceptance into the course, you will receive manuals and 2 text books .

 

Teaching Practice
The teaching practice programme has been designed to build upon the student's theoretical and practical knowledge gained during the course. Students are expected to work under the supervision of trained and experienced teachers who will help them to become observant, caring and receptive teachers. The teaching practice will be arranged by the Institute for full-time students.

 

Awards

Full-time students will receive 2 awards upon completing the course:

  1. Diploma
    In order to obtain the Diploma, full-time students have to:
    1. attend lectures regularly
    2. complete and pass written assignments
    3. pass written and practical examinations
  2. International Diploma
    In order to obtain the International Diploma, students have to:
    1. obtain the Diploma
    2. complete the practicum attachment
    3. pass teaching practice evaluation
Diploma in Montessori Method of Education
(2½ - 6 yrs) Part-Time

This is a part-time Montessori teacher training course. It is suitable for students wishing to work with or to teach children from 2½ to 6 years of age. The Diploma is awarded by Modern Montessori International, London.

*Optional Teaching Practice
An increasing number of employers expect prospective employees to have work experience in the Montessori classroom. To meet this need, we offer students an opportunity to obtain the International Diploma upon completion of supervised teaching practice in an accredited Montessori school.

 

Course Requirement
In order to complete the course, students are required to complete written assignments and attend an 11 day workshop & training on the presentation of the Montessorimaterials (DMT 104 to DMT 108).At the end of the workshop, students are required to sit for a pratical examination.

 

Awards
Distance learning students will receive an award upon completing the course:

  1. Diploma
    In order to obtain the Diploma, distance learning students have to:
    1. attend the 11 day workshop

ODLQC


is an independant body established to emphasize the importance of quality in open and distance learning as well as the safe guards offered by accreditation. It also helps learners understand what distance learning involves and points them towards courses with good quality providers.

BAC


is the national accrediting body for further and higher education in the UK, it is responsible for the maintenance of standards in British education, With this pestigous accreditation out DMT programme embodies an enhanced international status.

MONTESSORI EUROPE


is an organization established in 2000 to enable and encourage Montessori pedagogy at political, social and educational levels throughout Europe. The Montessori pedagogy offers education for life by providing free choice in a structured learning environment. MMI London is a founding member of Montessori Europe.
